- Hi! here's what our food stylist, Lish Steiling, advises: I would not substitute apple sauce for the oil. The cake itself is a cross between a custard and a cake. I feel like with cutting out that fat, you would loose some of that deliciousness.Of course everything is worth a try once. :)
